Does my Dog Have a Soul? by Rabbi Mendel Bluming

Does a dog have a soul?

Every living being has a soul which is a G-dly energy that pulsates within it and vivifies it. A dog has a specifically sensitive soul which is why the Hebrew word for a dog kelev means close to one’s heart (ki-lev), because a dog can become a man’s best friend.

Of course this is not the same soul as a human soul but it too is a soul: a G-dly energy placed upon this earth for a purpose.

When that soul serves as an influence to make us more sensitive and caring, G-dly and committed to integrity and goodness then we have further magnified and realized the G-dly energy invested within the soul of that being.
